What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It’s a Federal Government scheme designed to empower the choice and control of Australian residents up to the age of 65 with a disability that is lifelong. It provides a number of services to maintain participants’ independence and support them in their day to day needs.

Am I eligible for NDIS?

You may be if you have a lifelong disability, are an Australian resident and you are aged under 65. You can obtain a form at your local NDIS office and have your allied health professional help you to fill it out. You can also find more information about eligibility on the NDIS website – www.ndis.gov.au.

Do any of the services cost me anything?

ACT Leisure Program does not charge entry fees or costs, or claims against any of your personal money. All supports are funded through the NDIS, according to the supports and services detailed in your plan.

If your plan has core funding you could request Short Term Accommodation. If you have core funding in your NDIS plan and it can be flexibly used, it can be used for Short Term Accommodation.

Short Term Accommodation is support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home – it can be up to 14 days at a time, and both accommodation and care are funded. You can stay with other people or by yourself, and it gives you a viable option if your usual carers are not available for any reason, or if you simply need a break from your usual routine to enhance your health and wellbeing.
